In the last week and into next, I will have tried to still work, drive to Vegas in a snow storm for daughters soccer tournament and then flew to Virginia for Bays wife's funeral. That makes training a little unconventional. Which also means 2 weekends in a row of no quote 'long runs'.
I started tracking my elevation and realized a huge shortage in what was needed to be able to do PCT50 and SD100 without absolute failure from climbing and at altitude aka... dying. Seems my average week and 2k in it up and down. I did have a 4k week. basically my 6 or 8 mile loop around the 'P' but not up or over the saddle or on snake trail is only 600 g/l. The hard part is controlling and the timing of adding elevation and distance in some way that doesn't blow out my calf muscle and/or knee.
This week I will try the following schedule before heading to DC on Fri. and then again Sunday likely walk around national mall for a few hours.
Sun 6, Mon 8, Tues 8, Wed 8, Thurs 8, Fri 0, Sat 0, Sun 3-4 walk?
NS1+ and on meds for sinus infection. Running angry or maybe better described as frustrated.
After years of working my way up the ultra distance ladder I was able to run in & complete my first 100 miler at Javelina in Oct 2017. Not knowing the Western States 100 entry rules I missed the cutoff for the 2018 lottery. Going into 2018 I had built a strong base & added races with hills to start toward my goal of qualifying. Unfortunately, April 1st, I tore my PCL and meniscus requiring surgery. I created this site to track my progress and getting back From zero to 100 miles.
